Oh Mona!

Comment on this

A few weekends ago, my husband and I traveled to Round Top, Texas for an art festival. We set up our booth--and as usually happens at these kinds of festivals, we met a lot of great people and we had so much fun. There was one special moment that I'll carry with me forever.

At one point, an 8-year-old girl came by with her mother. She ran right over to my painting of Mona the pig. She was completely smitten. She told her mother that she wanted to buy the painting but her mother reminded her that this was their first stop and that the painting would cost all of her money. The little girl was insistent, sure that she wanted the painting. Her mom asked what she would do with the painting and she said she would put it in her room and look at it every day. Eventually, the little girl bought the painting (with some extra money from her mom) and we took a photo together. The girl told me that she's also an artist and I told her to keep at it because that's how people get to find a career doing something they love.

A little while later, I took a lunch break outside at a picnic table. I noticed the same little girl sitting with her head on the table, staring at Mona.

This little girl, this moment, that's what it's all about.
